The New Jersey Legislature has approved a bill to prohibit employers from discriminating against unemployed individuals when advertising for available jobs. The bill prohibits an employer from discriminating against the unemployed by publishing a job advertisement that states that unemployed individuals may not apply. The new law would authorize a $1,000.00 fine for a first offense of unlawful discrimination and $5,000.00 for subsequent offenses. The bill has recently been sent to the governor for his approval.
