In the matter of Sara Lesende v. Arnold Borrero, et al., 06-cv-4967, a jury found that $2.7 million in damages was sufficient after Ms. Lesende was pulled from her vehicle and assaulted by police officers in Newark, New Jersey. Nevertheless, District Judge, Dickinson Debevoise, researched other matters regarding police brutality and came to a shocking conclusion - - that Ms. Lesende accept $750,000 or appear for another trial regarding damages. To add insult to injury, the City of Newark filed a motion seeking a new trial, stating that the jury was obviously swayed by "passion or prejudice."
